Therapy for First Responders

The Mental Wellness Center, inc provides First Responder Counseling and Therapy to adults and their families who serve in the military, law enforcement, firefighter, emergency medical, and dispatcher communities.

Because of the complex trauma First Responders encounter in their workforce on a routine basis, combined with the employment-based lack of taught effective trauma management skills. The First Responder community members and their families function in an independent culture that frequently impacts them beyond their workplace.

There is often no such thing as routine because every day presents complex traumas, challenges, shocks, surprises, and dangers. These are things that everyday people and their families can never comprehend, which is why therapists working with First Responders need specific training and education.

Holding space for everything that a First Responder and their family member bring to the therapeutic space is a deep honor. Working with First Responders requires a unique partnership while recognizing their community's unbreakable bond and pride.

Nearly every First Responder goes into their field with a strong desire and passion for helping people and wanting to make a difference. At The Mental Wellness Center, we want to ensure that First Responders have access to competent and quality care.

We specialize in having providers who use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and many additional modalities to help our First Responders work through their traumas and decrease their overall stress level.

First Responders often hesitate to ask for support until things have reached a crisis point. At The Mental Wellness Center, we are working with our local First Responders to help ensure quality access to superior mental health care before things reach a crisis point.
