Counseling Services for Normal, IL. Serving all of Central Illinois.

Are communication issues affecting your relationships or career performance? Have depression or anxiety symptoms started taking control of your life? Do you need help feeling like yourself again after a recent or past trauma? Perhaps you are having relationship concerns or struggles. Or maybe your children or adolescents are struggling to get through school or having other behavioral or life issues. It may be that you are a part of the Kink/ BDSM community, and you aren’t sure who you can talk to for guidance and support. Perhaps you are in a poly relationship and exhausted from being judged by traditional therapists. Are you a part of the LGBTQIA+ community and long for a safe place to process your experiences?

Then you are in the right place! At The Mental Wellness Center, we believe that everyone can benefit from therapy. Working with a therapist doesn’t mean you are broken or that you need to be fixed. It simply means that life has pushed you off course. And you are strong enough to push back.

For many of our clients, therapy is the first time they have a safe space to share their experiences without judgment or blame. And that validation is a powerful source of healing. You can see that you aren’t alone, and the challenges you have faced don’t mean that you’re crazy. You don’t have to live with anxiety, depression, trauma, inadequacy, or low self-esteem. There is hope, and it all starts with finding the right therapist.

For many of our clients, we are also their last resort. They have engaged with traditional therapists and found them lacking at best. The thing that makes our therapists stand out is that we have specific training in the subconscious mind and how to make lasting changes that don’t require you to engage in therapy for years and decades.

Treatment Areas of Focus

Modalities We Use

There is no one-size-fits-all treatment approach. Therefore, we tailor each session to your specific challenges and goals. This client-centered approach allows us to incorporate a range of scientifically validated treatments determined by your unique needs.

We draw from the following solution-focused, strength-based modalities:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Rational Emotive Therapy

  • Trauma Therapy

  • Reality Therapy

  • Positive Psychology

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

  • Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

Individual vs Group Therapy

Whether this is your first time considering therapy or you have worked with a therapist in the past, it’s normal to have questions. Would you benefit more from one-on-one therapy or group therapy (or a combination of the two)?

Individual therapy allows for one-on-one support and an increased sense of privacy. The focus is entirely on you, and that means you can practice personalized strategies and skills tailored to your situation. Group therapy, on the other hand, allows you to heal on a deeper, more inclusive level. There’s a level of hope and validation in seeing that your peers are going through the same thing you are—especially when they are further along in their healing journey.

In our experience, a combination of individual and group therapy is most effective for many clients. Individual therapy gives you time and space to process what you learned in group therapy. And group therapy serves as an ongoing source of hope where you can hear from peers who have dealt with similar challenges and practice what you learned in individual sessions.

Our therapists are committed to finding the right approach for your unique needs and goals and will help you determine whether you would benefit most from individual therapy, group therapy, or both.

Clinical Supervision

Jenn Bovee is listed with the NASW of Illinois as a clinical supervisor. She has provided clinical supervision for a wide range of mental health professionals, including life coaches, hypnotherapists, interns, provisionally licensed individuals (licensed social workers), as well as practitioners in private practice who don’t have a supervisor and just want someone who can offer resources, guidance, and support.

In addition to her years as a licensed therapist, Jenn has worked with social workers, single-parent families, and parents escaping domestic violence. This has given her a unique vantage point that not only supports your ongoing career growth, but provides a sense of community, guidance, and direction.
