Sara Livengood, LCSW

Hi, I’m Sara Livengood, LCSW, and this is the part where I tell you a little about myself so you can decide if we might be a good fit.

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and an EMDRIA Certified Clinician. I’m also a 100 Club Vetted Clinician. I prioritize showing up as a genuine person who has learned a lot and is here to walk alongside you on this journey.

I specialize in trauma and relationship work with first responders and  those experiencing Complex PTSD. Due to the complexity of this work my availability is flexible, but limited, in order to provide the best care for my clients.

Speaking of navigating, therapy is your journey, not mine. I like to think of the work we do as a puzzle. You bring the pieces of yourself and tell me what kind of picture you want to create, and we work on the puzzle together. I want people to feel like this is their own personal journey, not someone telling them what they need to “fix.” Humans don’t need fixing, but sometimes we do need help sorting through the messy parts of ourselves.

You can use swear words (I only see adults), take your shoes off, laugh, cry, and just be yourself when you’re in my office, whether that’s in person or virtually. I do have a lot of letters behind my name, and I’m happy to list them if you email me. But at the end of the day, I’m just a person who has learned a lot, so I can walk alongside other people on this wild journey we call life. (Not a direct Prince quote, but close enough.)

So what makes me different?

I can’t speak for other therapists, but what defines my practice is a deep sense of honor in witnessing the vulnerability of the people I work with. I’m incredibly comfortable sitting with people in their darkest moments.

I use a number of therapeutic modalities in my work:

Professional Experience

Step into a warm, welcoming environment where exploration is encouraged and healing feels possible. I am Sara, a compassionate LCSW guiding adults and couples through life’s challenges with empathy and insight. My approach is integrative, drawing from EMDR, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, DBT, Parts Work, and Individual Therapy to meet each client’s unique needs.

As a trauma-informed, EMDR-certified therapist and Level 2 Gottman-trained couples counselor, I specialize in helping individuals and couples gain clarity, restore connection, and move through distress toward lasting growth. I work with adults facing a wide range of emotional struggles—from anxiety and depression to trauma and relationship difficulties—and offer a steady hand in even the most turbulent times.

Grounded in empathy, active listening, and evidence-based practice, I create a space where individuals and couples can experience real breakthroughs and rediscover their capacity for resilience and connection.

Professional Skills

As a clinician, I specialize in walking with you through life’s emotional terrain—no matter how steep the climb. Here’s how I can support your healing journey:

Support for Anxiety and Depression

Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or simply stuck, I offer personalized, evidence-based approaches to help restore balance and peace of mind.

Counseling for Couples Facing Relationship Challenges

Using Gottman Method tools and a compassionate, structured approach, I help couples deepen communication, rebuild trust, and rediscover emotional and physical intimacy.

Those who have experienced infidelity often face challenges when seeking out relationship counseling due to the nature of the trauma experienced and fear of judgement. I offer a non-judgemental space where couples can find support and empathy in their journey back to each other.

Healing with EMDR

EMDR allows us to safely process and resolve trauma, transforming painful memories into sources of strength and resilience. EMDR requires both trust and patience in order to heal memories which have often been avoided for long periods of time. I take the time to build that trust with each client and developing coping strategies for stabilization during this journey.

Navigating PTSD

I offer a trauma-informed, evidence-based approach for those working through the lingering effects of trauma—creating a path to empowerment and lasting change.

Embracing Life Transitions

Whether you’re navigating a major life change or feeling lost in transition, I help you gain clarity, confidence, and the emotional tools to move forward.

Tailored Therapeutic Modalities

I draw from a range of therapeutic tools to create a custom-fit approach for every client:

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT): Build skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and improved relationships.

  • Individual Therapy: One-on-one work designed for personal insight, growth, and healing.

  • Couples Therapy (Gottman Method): An evidence-based approach to improving communication, connection, and conflict resolution.

  • EMDR: A powerful modality for trauma resolution and emotional healing.

  • Parts Work: Deepen self-understanding by exploring and integrating different aspects of your inner world.

Philosophy of Care

My approach is built on a foundation of empathy, safety, and validation. I believe healing unfolds when we feel truly heard and understood. Together, we’ll navigate discomfort as a path to transformation, empowering you to reconnect with your authentic self and embrace lasting positive change—whether you're on an individual healing journey or working to strengthen a relationship.
