Sarah Hickman, LSW
Welcome,I’m Sarah Hickman, MSW, LSW, a Licensed Social Worker in the state of Illinois. I provide compassionate, evidence-based therapy for individuals through both in-person and telehealth sessions. My practice is grounded in empathy, authenticity, and collaboration, offering a space where you can explore your story without fear of judgment.
I hold a Master’s in Social Work from Illinois State University and specialize in supporting clients navigating grief, complex trauma, perinatal and reproductive mental health, addiction, and life transitions. I provide affirming care for the LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent communities, and I have specialized training in paternal and grieving perinatal mental health as well as abortion-affirming care.
My Therapeutic Approach
I believe healing begins with safety and connection. My work integrates EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Somatic Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Together, we’ll identify patterns that no longer serve you, cultivate self-compassion, and build tools to support your growth and well-being.
My goal is to help you reconnect with your strengths, rediscover your voice, and move toward a life that feels grounded and meaningful.
Professional Background & Motivation
Before becoming a therapist, I earned my undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, where I developed a deep appreciation for understanding human behavior, justice, and systems of support. Through that experience, I realized my calling was not only to advocate for people but to walk alongside them in healing.
Before pursuing my masters, I facilitated peer support groups for infertility and child loss, and those experiences continue to shape my compassionate, client-centered approach to care. My work is rooted in honoring each person’s unique journey and empowering them to move through pain toward resilience.
About Myself
Outside of my work, I find balance and inspiration through traveling, hiking, and exploring used bookshops. These moments of discovery and quiet reflection help me stay grounded and remind me of the beauty in small, simple things — a value I bring into the therapy space as well.
You Deserve Support That Meets Your Needs
Taking the first step toward therapy can feel vulnerable, but you don’t have to do it alone. You deserve care that meets your needs, honors your experiences, and helps you build the life you want. I’m here to walk alongside you — with empathy, understanding, and hope.
