I’m Dr. Amy Nussbaum, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois, and I’m honored to walk alongside adolescents, adults, and couples through the challenges, transitions, and unexpected seasons of life.
I work with clients experiencing anxiety, emotional struggles, relationship concerns, trauma, PTSD, life transitions, or simply a sense of feeling stuck, disconnected, or unsure of what comes next.
I believe reaching out for counseling is an act of courage, and I strive to create a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where clients can be honest about what they are experiencing and begin moving toward healing and growth.

Professional Experience
My educational and professional journey has centered around understanding people, relationships, faith, and personal growth.
I hold a Doctor of Ministry degree in Engaging Mind & Culture, as well as graduate degrees in Christian Counseling and Ministry.
My background includes counseling, ministry, coaching, and working with individuals and families through a variety of life circumstances.
I have a particular interest in trauma and PTSD and am trained in EMDR. For clients who desire it, I also welcome the opportunity to integrate faith, prayer, and biblical wisdom into the counseling process. My hope is to help each client slow down, feel heard, gain clarity, and take meaningful steps toward greater healing, growth, and hope.
Therapeutic Approaches
I believe therapy begins with a genuine, trusting relationship where clients feel safe to be heard, understood, and accepted.
My approach is collaborative and individualized, drawing from evidence-based practices while considering the whole person—thoughts, emotions, relationships, experiences, values, and goals. I meet clients where they are and work alongside them to develop greater understanding, practical tools, and meaningful change.
I have a particular interest in trauma and PTSD and use EMDR as part of my work with clients when appropriate.
For clients who desire it, I also integrate faith, prayer, and biblical wisdom into the counseling process. My goal is to create a space where clients can process what they have experienced, gain clarity about where they are, and move toward greater healing, growth, and hope.

Philosophy of Care
I believe every person has a story worth understanding and that healing begins when we have the courage to be honest about where we are. People are more than their struggles, diagnoses, or difficult experiences, and I believe meaningful change is possible when clients are met with compassion, respect, and hope.
My role is not to tell clients who they should be, but to walk alongside them as they discover greater clarity, understand themselves more deeply, and identify the steps that move them toward the life they want to live. When desired by the client, I believe faith can be an important source of meaning, strength, and hope throughout that journey.
