Kari Knowlton Green, LPC

Welcome

Hello Beardos and Weirdos, Thems and Femmes, welcome home.

If you’ve struggled to find a therapist who truly understands your world, I want you to know, you’re not alone, and you’re in the right place. I’m honored to work with individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+, are part of consensual non-monogamous relationships, gamers, LARPers, creatives, and those who walk a nontraditional path.

With me, you’re invited to bring your full self,  cape, controller, or character sheet included. I offer in-person and virtual therapy sessions across the state of Illinois. Whether you’re beginning your mental health journey or returning with new goals, we’ll work together to create a space that’s safe, affirming, and deeply you.

Professional Experience

I hold a B.A. in Psychology from Illinois State University and an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adler University in Chicago. My graduate training emphasized ethical care for diverse populations, and I carry that commitment into every session.

Before becoming a licensed counselor, I worked in a variety of industries, from hospitality to management,  all of which taught me how to connect with people, meet them where they are, and navigate complex challenges with empathy and creativity.

I currently live in Bloomington, Illinois, with my spouse and our beloved (and ever-changing number of) cats. I enjoy musicals, meditation, tabletop RPGs, karaoke, and getting outside when I can. I believe joy, curiosity, and creativity have a place in therapy — and in life.

Professional Skills & Modalities

I provide therapy for individuals, families, and relationships of all types, including those practicing consensual non-monogamy or exploring gender and sexual identity. I have clinical experience supporting clients through:

  • Acute and complex trauma

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Mood disorders

  • Identity development and exploration

My approach is trauma-informed and person-centered, grounded in empathy and affirmation. I’m trained in multiple evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

I also incorporate grounding tools like breathwork and movement, and I welcome expressive therapies like art, storytelling, and narrative work — especially if these are already part of your life.
